Studying the past has always been necessary to the future progress of our society insofar as not to repeat the mistakes of the past. This applies especially to the social sciences like History, in which through the input of Historians, advice to present politicians or lawmakers can avoid human tensions, f.i. :"Do not come with any such thing as a stamp act, see what happenned when it was applied to the american colonies".
