Answer: Option A - Some objects in the painting appear to be close, while others seem to be far away.

  1. In this case, linear perspective painting, the basic principle of is the sense of depth provided by the scholars and objects closer to the eye of observer. Other objects behind them, seem to become smaller as the picture gains depth in the background. Thereby creating a sense of illusion of depth on a flat surface because all the lines seem to converge at the focal point or vanishing point of this composition.
  2. In this case the  scholars Plato and Aristotle represent the vanishing point. The arches, nave and vault all behave in the same way giving depth to the painting.
  3. This type of painting is mostly used to depict realistic indoor views and ideas.
  4. The same principle can be noted and applied in  color schemes, details etc. The further away from the observer´s eye the lighter it becomes. For example, note that the blue color of the sky, revealed in the central vault becomes lighter in color in the last receding plane.
  5. The floor lines of the steps also recede.
