The Jacksonian era refers to the 19th century period in which the political doctrine with the same name aroused in the US. It preached for greater democracy in the hands of the average man. It takes the name from the 7th President Andrew Jackson who was in office at that time. It became the dominant political viewpoint.

It started exactly when the election of President Jackson took place in 1828. It ended in 1854, when slavery became the main political topic and the whole politic scenario was reshaped with the beginning of the American Civil War.
