During World War II, some 350,000 women served in the U.S. Armed Forces, both at home and abroad. They included the Women'sAirforce Service Pilots, who on March 10, 2010, were awarded theprestigious Congressional Gold Medal. Many women served dircly with the armed forces (Women´s Army Corps) but much more worked back home in the all important war efforts, like working at the factories that produced munitions and weapons.
