for this, we use the given info plus a bit of multiplying and subtraction

part 1)

we know that she's 25 y/m
so 5 minutes simply means 25 × 5
$25 \times 5 = 125 \: yards$

now we simply subtract this from 1000 (the original distance)
$1000 - 125 = 875 \: yards$

part 2)

the total time taken is even easier to find
all we have to do is divide 1000 by 25
$1000 \div 25 = 40 \: minutes$
