The name of the agreement designed to end conflicts between the Osage and the Western Cherokee in 1816, was called the Lovely's Purchase.

At that time, there were many native americans tribes. The Osages and the Cherokees were two of them. Conflicts were common. The name os the agreement was because of Major William Lewis Lovely, who was an assistant agent to the Cherokee in Tennessee.

With no help from the government, Lovely bought land from the Osage to serve as a mediation between the tribes in 1816. The Osage and the Cherokee considered the purchase valid, although the United States did not recognize it. But for the time being, conflicts ceased.
