¿Qué significa tener cohesión y coherencia en la redacción de un texto? Significa que en la redacción de un texto, debemos tener un método, (y la palabra método procede del griego, metá -odós, que significa: tener un camino). Para disponer de su escritura, debemos prever el material a partir del cual comenzaremos a escribir, ya que no es posible sentarse a escribir un texto escolar (sea de educación media, universitaria, posuniversitaria, doctoral, etc.) sin contar con la bibliografía necesaria para realizar la investigación que servirá de argumento y base, de entramado ideal, conjetural y teórico de los textos que vamos a elaborar.
La cohesión consiste entonces, en la unidad teórica -argumental y escrituraria que hace de ese escrito un escrito consistente y sólido cuyas ideas y basamentos son coherentes en ideas, forma, estilo y contenido. Acá vemos que entra en juego el concepto de coherencia, justamente, porque la cohesión tiene su lugar de mano de la coherencia, que se da como broche, como condición sine qua non de un texto cuya finalidad es la de ser científico. Cohesión y coherencia, finalmente, se implican mutuamente.

Cohesion consists, then, in the theoretical-argumentative and scriptural unity that makes this writing a consistent and solid writing whose ideas and foundations are coherent in ideas, form, style and content. Here we see that the concept of coherence comes into play, precisely because cohesion has its place in the hand of coherence, which is given as a pin, as a sine qua non condition of a text whose purpose is to be scientific. Cohesion and coherence, finally, are mutually implied.
