In the publication "Tiger-heart's Shadow" by T. Sutherland, Marigold is a member of the guardian cats, and its a Black Cat.
We can also point out that Black Cats have been associated with witches since ancient western traditions, and somehow particularly in ancient wales tradition, Marigolds were closely related to witches; which apparently used to carry those types of flowers with them.
Another way we can compare both is when it comes to long lifespan, since the Marigolds are famous for its ability to recover just as cats are known for their endurance and having multiple lives, and their ability to survive hazardous experiences.
And they're both (black cats and marigolds) sometimes associated with death, for example, in Mexican tradition Marigold is a flower related to death, and in Greek mythology, Aphrodite's tears became Marigolds after her lover Adonis' death.
Black Cats have been for a long time associated with horror tales, decadence and death; but at the same time, likewise marigolds both have been frequently depicted as a symbol of good luck.
