Subsistence strategies are closely tied to a society's methods used to support life. Subsistence means: "what a person needs in order to stay alive". Societies around the Globe will create strategies to survive according to their own resources; there are several subsistence strategies and among them we find, five main strategies: horticulture, when people cultivate vegetables for their own use; pastoralism, by domesticating animals as a food source; foraging, used by groups who live a nomadic lifestyle, it forces them to move from one region to another one in order to find the plants or animals which they will hunt to eat; agriculture, and industrialism. Subsistence strategies are created by the human being or the society mainly regarding food, as the main source of survival.
