Te book of Malachi happens 100 years after the exile of the Israelites. Those that have returned to Jerusalem are denounced by God, mostly because of the charge of corruption. God accuses them of sacrifices, divorce, among many other things. The book also talks about how God WILL keep his promise and send a Messiah which will bring peace to Jerusalem.
Answering the question, God denounces his people by raising the question of tithing
When Malachi was addressing his audience, he criticized them for questioning the way of God. Malachi told the audience that God is just and urged them to remain faithful as the judgment of God approaches.
Malachi also told the people that they have not been faithful to God; he told them that they have not served God in the right way; he said the people were not giving God what he deserves.
Malachi criticizes the priest and the people; he said the priests have remained ungrateful to God and their sacrifices are unacceptable to God and also criticized the people for not offering their full tithe to God.
Malachi told the people that the result of their actions and shortcomings shows they do not believe in the work of God.
However, Malachi told the faithful among the audience that in the Day of Judgment, those who refuse to pay tithe and those who have been faithful to God will receive their judgment accordingly.
A tithe refers to contributions that individuals pay to religious organizations. It is one-tenth of one’s earnings or something that a person must contribute to a religious organization. It is very common among Christian’s organizations.
