Let's use the variable *x* to represent this number in our equation:
2x - 60 = 5x
We must first isolate the variable, an easy way of doing that would be to subtract "2x" from each side of the equation:
-60 = 3x
Now we must get rid of that 3 next to the "x" by dividing both sides by 3:
-20 = x
And there we have it! Our mystery number is equal to -20. An alternative equation you could've written at the very start was "2x = 5x + 60" but we would of still ended up with the same answer. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'll be happy to work with you!
