Elie Wiesel, author and main character of the story, wanted to show his experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust and how it affected his faith, questioning himself about the existence of God. Wiesel writes this story so that people know will never forget the events of the Holocaust. Due to Wiesel was able to reflect the story so well, he was  rewarded with a Nobel Peace Prize.
