Ideologically, Wollstonecraft is far from thinking that the role of women in society should be reduced to marriage, because this prevents them from becoming righteous people, worthy of fulfilling their objectives. She respects the institution of marriage, however, she is deeply saddened to think of the idea of a woman committing herself to an undeserving man, thus ruining her life.
For Wollstonecraft, the key factors for a lasting marriage are mutual respect and true friendship, moral and ethical values, leaving aside any appreciation of the physical or material aspect of any person.
Mary Wollstonecraft believes in the equality of men and women. She believes that a stable marriage is a partnership. Husbands and wives should have equal rights, knowledge, and sense of responsibilities to maintain the marriage. A stable marriage should also provide an education to each of their children.
