Micro-filaments are long thread-like strands which are made up of repeating units of the protein actin.
They with other network filaments like microtubule and intermediate filaments form the cytoskeleton of cell and also participate in the process of cell division at different levels like cytokinesis and mitosis.
1. During M-phase- at metaphase, they form spindle fibres which attach to the kinetochore of chromosomes and pull apart the chromosomes during anaphase.
2. During cytokinesis- in animal cells, at anaphase, they form actin fibres which forms contractile ring inside of the cell membrane and constrict animal cell from all sides.
Thus, micro-filaments plays an important role during cell division.
