Earth plates move on the Earth's mantle,a really thick layer of hot flowing rocks.The flow of the mantle causes the plates to move in different directions.Even though plates move really slow their movements (plate tectonics) has a huge impact on the Earth
Tectonic plates are moving even though the Earth generally seems still. Earthquakes are one example of evidence of the movement of tectonic plates. When they collide they create earthquakes,tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and even form mountain ranges depending on how the collision occurs.
