American Colonization Society was founded in 1816 to provide assist towards freeing of the black people in emigrating to Africa. This was an abolitionist group that was aiming to convince slave owners to free their slaves to that they could return back to Africa. Although the goal was a good one, the African Americans did not want to leave America for Africa but to remain in America and have equal rights like the Native Americans.
