In 1466, at the age of fourteen, he was apprenticed to the most successful artists in his day.
In 1478, he became an independent master.
In 1472, he was registered as a master craftsman in the guild of st Luke. Thus began the career of a man whose intellect and talent have never been surpassed.
In 1481, he received a major church commission for an altarpiece, the Adoration of the Maji.
Lorenzo de Medici commissioned Leonardo da Vinci in 1482, to create a piece for the Duke of Monaco, which was being done as a gesture of peace.
