Farmers who moved from place to place to harvest fruits and vegetables were called migrant workers. "Migrant" means to move from one place to anocher. At that timeperiod, those migrants were workers who didn't work at factories, but at farms and similar places to harvest fruits and vegetables for a living. 

A "migrant worker" refers to a person who either migrates within their own country or outside it looking for work such as seasonal work.
