Write the equation of the line that passes through the points (3,7) and (-1,2) in point-slope form and slope-intercept form. I am stuck on how to do this.

Respuesta :

First, find the slope (m):   m = [tex]\frac{y2 - y1}{x2 - x1}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{7 - 2}{3 - (-1})[/tex] = [tex]\frac{5}{4}[/tex]

Next, input ONE of the points (x₁, y₁) and the slope into the Point-Slope formula:

y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)

y - 7 = [tex]\frac{5}{4}[/tex](x - 3)

Lastly, isolate "y" to find the Slope-Intercept formula: y = mx + b

y - 7 = [tex]\frac{5}{4}x[/tex] - [tex]\frac{15}{4}[/tex]

    y = [tex]\frac{5}{4x}[/tex]  + [tex]\frac{13}{4}[/tex]
