This pathway is more commonly referred to as a reflex arc.
A reflex arc is the pathway of neurons that controls a reflex (an involuntary reaction to a stimulus). A reflex arc involves a few nerve cells and the information is transmitted from the body to the spinal cord. There are two types of reflex arc which are; somatic reflex arc that affects muscles, and autonomic reflex arc that affects inner organs. Most reflex arcs are composed of sensory neurons, receptors, interneurons, motor neurons and muscles.
