In the past, mental illness was a rather taboo topic, especially for those living with it. This would often cause people to avoid seeking help out of fear or judgment. Nowadays, mental illness is more talked about and looked at as valid illness.
Attitudes towards mental illness are very different from what they used to be. In the past, mental illnesses were not something that people talked much or pay attention to it. Over time, the conception of mental illness changed. Nowadays, people and doctors consider them as illnesses that anyone can have; there is more information on them and how to prevent them since nowadays people talk more bout them and take them as something serious.
Attitudes towards mental illness have significantly changed over time. In the past:
- Mental illness was not much discussed.
- People with then, then to hide them, or not ask for help
- Doctors did not consider mental illnesses as the causes of other problems in our bodies.
Today, things have significantly changed:
- There is more information about them and how to prevent them.
- People talk about them, ask for help, and share their experiences.
- Doctors take it as the cause of other problems and make diagnoses taking this into account.
In conclusion, the perception that we have regarding mental illness has positively changed over time.
