10+2(9 - 5) - 16/8=

Step 1: Check for brackets. Since a bracket is there, we will solve the bracket first

10 + 2 × (9 - 5) - 16 ÷ 8 = 10 + 2 × 4 - 16 ÷ 8

[Note: A number followed by a bracket means that the number is being multiplied with the expression in the bracket]

Step 2: Now that we have simplified the bracket, we will conduct the division and multiplication operation. As stated above, since both these operations rank equally we will solve them from left to right

10 + 2 × 4 - 16 ÷ 8 = 10 + 8 - 16 ÷ 8 = 10 + 8 - 2

Step 3: Now that we have performed the division and multiplication operations, we will perform addition and subtraction. As stated above, since both these operations rank equally we will solve them from left to right

10 + 8 - 2 =  18 - 2 = 16

Hence, the answer to part A is 16.
