Statements of questions:
There are following statements given in question are true according to Dalton theory which are following
- Atoms combine to form compounds in simple, whole number ratios.
- All atoms of an element are identical, and each element has unique atoms,
- Elements are composed of atoms.
While the remaining points were discovered after the Dalton theory.
- An atom is divisible( Proton, neutron, electrons).
- Atom is neutral.
- Idea about nucleus.
- Shell and sub-shells of electron around the nucleus
- Space in atom
Main ideas of Dalton theory:
- According to Dalton's theory, matter is composed of atoms, these atoms are indivisible.
- Each element has same atoms while different elements have atoms of different size.
- According to Dalton's theory, all compounds were formed by the combination of atoms in define ratio.
- According to Dalton's theory, re-arrangements of these atoms causes the chemical reactions.
Limitations of Dalton theory:
- Atoms are divisible, atoms consist of three fundamentals particles protons, neutrons and electrons.
- Sometime atoms of same elements may have different masses.
- Sometime atoms of same elements may have different masses.
- There is no necessary for atoms of different elements that they will combine in simple whole number ratio.
