1. desire for revenge = Hamlet
At the beginning of the play, we can see that Hamlet's father died. However, we soon find out that he didn't die of natural causes, but was rather murdered by someone. Hamlet has suspicions that the murderer is his uncle, Claudius, and therefore wants to have his revenge on him. This motif moves the entire plot of the play.
2. respect for her father = Ophelia
Ophelia greatly respects her father and never does anything that might not please him. She reveres her father and wants to be an example of a perfect daughter, which she indeed is. However, she falls in love with Hamlet, who only appears to love her back, and she commits suicide during the play.
3. guilt = Claudius
Claudius shows guilt for what he did at one point in the play. He is talking to himself and says that he knows what he did was wrong (killing his own brother and marrying his widow), however, he's gone too far now to give up. Therefore, he pushes his guilt aside and continues ruling, until Hamlet kills him.
4. mixed loyalties = Gertrude
Gertrude feels she should be loyal to Hamlet and her late husband on one hand, but on the other, she also feels she should be loyal to her new husband, Claudius. She is torn between Hamlet and Claudius and spends the rest of the play deciding whose side she is supposed to take.
