One fifth of the balls in the basket were red, one tenth were blue, one half were yellow and the remaining 48 were orange. How many balls were there in the basket? Explain.

2/10 = red  1/10 = blue 5/10 = yellow

That means the remaining 48 orange balls make up 2/10 of the total.

So 5 * 48 = 240 ball total

DOUBLE CHECK  2/10 of 240 = 48

1/10 of 240 = 24

5/10 of 240 = 120

2/10 of 240 =48

48 + 24 + 120 + 48 = 240 It's correct!!
