Dramaturgical perspective or Dramaturgical approach,

In the presentation of self, Goffran is concerned with how individuals present themselves to another, based on values, norms and expectations. His theory is focused on face-to-face interactions, and states that individual actors play certain roles depending on the situation they are in.

Goffran draws a distinct line between what is public and what is private, and describes how individual's identities are made up of front-stage and back-stage. This means, that he individual "performs" on the front stage in alignment with the expectations of a particular situation, and individuals can be themselves, reserved from judgement on the backstage.

Nowadays, Goffran's framework can be applied to the Internet or social media interactions between individuals. According to his theory, the individual must put on different front stage acts on each current network. There are certain norms and expectations that shape how individuals chose to present themselves on social media. The content shared, the nature of interacting and the style of writing are determined by each network. In conclusion on line interactions with others also influences performances of self.

Dramaturgical analysis Presentation of Self' Erving Goffman introduced a popular thinking within the symbolic-interaction perspective. This is the  use of social media  that allows people to fashion identities for themselves and this is  the study of social interaction in terms of theatrical performance. Erving Goffman  is considered by some to be the most influential sociologist of the 20th century and he is widely known and celebrated as a major figure in the development of symbolic interaction theory and for developing the dramaturgical perspective.
