Is ANYONE familiar with the picket fence method? I need help on a few things and I'm willing learn. This method is to help convert between 2 factors.. and I just really need help with 2 problems.

The picket fence method is a visual way to help convert from one unit to another. The drawing of the diagram looks more or less like a fence. You will draw a horizontal flat line with a set of vertical lines that make up the fence posts. Check out the attached image to see what I mean.

In the first slot of the top row will go the value you want to convert. So we'll have 0.46 kg in that position. Now you need to convert from kilograms (kg) to grams (g). There are 1000 grams in a kilogram which means 1 kg = 1000 g. This helps us set up the conversion factor. We place 1000 g in the slot next to 0.46 kg and 1 kg just below that. Then we set up another conversion factor

1 oz = 28.3495 g which is approximate. This forms the third step of the conversion.

Now we multiply across the top and bottom separately. Across the top we will have 0.46*1000*1 = 460. Along the bottom we have 1*28.3495 = 28.3495

Finally we divide the top result (460) over the bottom result (28.3495) and we get the approximate final answer 16.2260357

This shows how 0.46 kg turns into the approximate value 16.2260357 ounces
