[ 1 ] By raising and keeping a standing army within this kingdom in time of peace without consent of Parliament, and quartering soldiers contrary to law;
[ 2 ] By Assuming and Exercising a Power of Dispensing with and Suspending of Lawes and the Execution of Lawes without Consent of Parlament.
[ 3 ] By causing several good Subjects being Protestants to be disarmed at the same time when Papists were both Armed and employed contrary to Law.
The English Bill of Rights was an act of Parliament that established basic civil rights in England. It limited the power of the government and established the rights of Parliament. It also established certain rights of individuals. On the other hand, the Act of Settlement was an Act of Parliament that settled the succession to the English and Irish crowns on Protestants only. Some of the changes these documents brought were:
- They allowed for free speech and open discussion in Parliament.
- They allowed Protestants to be armed for their own defense once more.
- They allowed the English and Irish crowns to be passed to Protestants only.
