Plasticity
If you lose a foot, the somatosensory cortex that received its input will begin to pick up signals from the formerly adjoined leg. This best illustrates the value of; plasticity.
Plasticity is the ability of an organism to adapt to changes in response to any stimuli in its environment or imbalances between its various habitats. Plasticity in living organisms can happen at any level of complexity which may be cellular, molecular, behavioral or systemic.
