The way the Taliban achieved their economy was by imposing a 50% tax on any company operating in the country and a 6% import tax on anything brought from other countries. The Taliban controlled 96% of Afghanistan's poppy fields and made opium its largest source of taxation. It is said that it was drug money which funded the weapons and ammunition for their war purposes.
