The accused Mathieu Ngudjolo Chui and Germain Katanga were commanders of military groups associated with different ethnic groups in the Eastern Congo region of Ituri.
Chui and Katana started the common plan to ‘wipe out’ Bogoro village in February 2003. Each of their groups executed the plain in joint action. The troops annihilated many members of Bogoro’s civilian population during this event, and perpetrated atrocities that were war crimes and crimes against humanity.
