so the shape has 4 of that yellow triangle, and 4 of that red trapezoid, and that one rectangle in the middle.


now, notice the triangle has a base of 2, an altitude/height of 3.


the trapezoid has a bases of 2 and 4 and a height of 1.


the rectangle is just 4x4 square.


so we can just find the area of each, sum them up, and that's the area of the composite.
