The answer is the right to vote. Suffrage movement is woman’s fighting movement to have the right to vote as part of the right to citizenship.

EXPLANATION

Suffragettes are American and British women who successfully gained political justice in voting by the early 20th century. Women’s suffrage movement was first established in the Seneca Falls Convention. It was the first convention for women’s rights that’s ever held in the United States. Over three hundred activists, both consisting of men and women, gathered to explore the condition of women and analyze the strategies to achieve political and social rights for women.

Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton created the first women’s suffrage in 1869. The organization is called the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA), while Henry Blackwell, Lucy Stone, and Julia Ward Howe founded the American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA). Those two organizations were merged into one organization, the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) in 1890.

In the 1870s, the women’s suffrage activists (suffragists) attempted to vote at the polling places. They also filed lawsuits if their attempts of voting were rejected. Susan B. Anthony was put on trial after voting for the 1872 presidential election. Suffragists hoped that the lawsuits that they filed can work their way up and justices would someday declare that women have the right to vote. These efforts were eventually successful. By the time of the Nineteenth Amendment, half of the states had granted voting for women as political rights.
