A- finissaient = were finishing

B- faisaient = were doing

C- commençaient = CORRECT ==> were begining

D- entraînaient = trained.

to be correct, it should have been =s'entraînaient (were training)

It is C, but i must say the word Soldants was confusing for a sec, i started to doubt my fench :) but i realisef it was misspelled:)
