The nurse must use the diaphragm of the stethoscope to auscultate for
the clients lungs and bowel sounds in order to
properly assessed the condition of the client. The diaphragm
of the stethoscope can receive high-pitched sounds such as breath, bowel, and
normal heart sounds.
Moreover, the diaphragm must be firmly held against the
person's skin enough to leave a ring and block out extraneous room sounds.
