The end of World War II began what was as the birth or burst of the suburbs. GI bill allowed returning soldiers to choose to either start a business, go to college, or buy a home. Most choose to buy a new home, typically in newly developed villages or towns outside of the city. which caused highways to be built to allow easy access for those who live in suburbs to travel back and fourth between their home and work. As a result of the flight to the suburbs, the cities where left with less taxdollars, thus leaving behind the pour and causing the interior of the city to crumble. making the poor even more poor.
