King Charles II originally bought and plotted the land for Carolina in 1663. The Carolina colony was divided into North and South Carolina in 1712, after the heirs of the colonies neglected the land they plotted out. However, the split between North Carolina and South Carolina wasn't officially recognized by Britain until 1729.

Answer:

The South Carolina Colony was founded in 1633 by eight English nobles with a Royal Charter from King Charles II - refer to Lords Proprietors and the Charter of Carolina. North and South Carolina were one colony until 1729.
