The first HIN should be for good affixed to the starboard facet of the transom among 2 inches of the highest of the transom, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is lowest. On boats while not transoms or on boats on that it might be impractical to the transom, the HIN should be appendant to the starboard outboard facet of the hull, aft among one foot of the strict and among 2 inches of the highest of hull facet, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is lowest. The starboard outboard facet of the hull aft is that the most well-liked HIN location for several manufacturers. On catamarans and pontoon boats the HIN should be appendant on the AFT crosspiece among one foot of the starboard hull attachment.
