Before answering the question, some explanation about the purpose of flow cytometry.
The cytometry analysis provides us with the presence and the abundance of clusters of differentiation (CD), for example, the research of CD2, CD3 and CD4 in lymphocytes.
These CDs will be marked (if they are present) with specific antibodies linked with different fluorochromes, and when the cells exit the flow cell intersect, a laser detects these fluorochromes (representing CDs) and count them.
The result will be displayed in a graph showing the frequency of the CDs with spots of different colours.
