Just over b. 100 children had hemispherectomies at Johns Hopkins between 1975 and 2001.
Hemispherectomies were performed on the children that had incurable neurological disorders. During these operations, half of the brain of exactly 111 children were removed to cease them from sensing sudden strokes, epileptic attacks, fits, or seizures.
Only the part of the brain which is known to be responsible for these disorders was removed and the results obtained were positive.
