didn't see her leap through air, only heard the sudden thump and looked out my window. She was hanging by the backs of her heels from the new gutter we had put up that year, and she was smiling.

The climax of the story “The leap” is when the narrator describes how his house burns down and it seems she wont be able to escape. The mother looks trough the window to her and knows that there´s no way out because the flames are huge. Looks like death is so closed but the mother and her hability to leap, as she did in the trapeze, is the way out.

The story is written with flashbacks, thats why the climax described on the paragraph before ocurred in the past.

The text of the story is the one that start with: “Outside, my mother stood below my dark window and saw clearly that there was no rescue. Flames had pierced one side wall…”
