Mike and I were best friends. We did everything together. A few weeks ago Mike began acting strangely. He started cutting classes, and his grades were suffering. He spent less and less time with his friends, including me. When Mike and I did things together, he talked down about himself and was so negative that I just started tuning him out. He drove his car so fast and dangerously that I became scared just being with him in the vehicle. One morning he told me that everyone would probably be better off if he just drove his car into a canal. I noticed that he was wearing the same clothes day after day and had an offensive body odor. I thought he was just depressed. When I mentioned this to his parents, they said that it was probably because he was not sleeping well and was rushed in the mornings. Last week Mike seemed to be more friendly. He even went so far as to lend me his new CDs and insist I take all his old ones as well, since he was tired of listening to them.
