Take the pieces of wire and add all of them up.

[tex] \frac{1}{8} + \frac{1}{2} + \frac{1}{2} + \frac{3}{4} [/tex]

We cannot add them up just yet, as we need to have all of the denominators be the same across all fractions.

The least common multiple denominator for all fractions is 8. Multiply the fractions to get a denominator of 8.

[tex] \frac{1}{2} * \frac{4}{4} = \frac{4}{8} [/tex]

[tex] \frac{3}{4} * \frac{2}{2} = \frac{6}{8} [/tex]

Now we can add all of our fractions together:

[tex] \frac{1}{8} + \frac{4}{8} + \frac{4}{8} + \frac{6}{8} = \frac{15}{8} [/tex]

Divide the fraction:

[tex]15 / 8 = 1 R7 = 1\frac{7}{8} [/tex]

1 will be your whole number, and 7 will be your numerator in this mixed fraction.

The answer is D.
