Where is pyruvate made in the cell?

A. Nucleus
B. Cytoplasm
C. Mitochondrion
D. Cell membrane

Respuesta :

Answer:
Pyruvate is prepared in the cytoplasm (B).

Explanation:
Pyruvate is the end product of glycolysis. Glycolysis was discovered by Embden, Meyerhof and Parnas. Hence, it is also called as Embden-Meyerhof pathway (EM pathway).

Steps of Glycolysis:
It occurs in the cytoplasm of cell under aerobic condition. It comprise of two main steps:

1. Preparatory phase:
In this phase glucose is broken down into two molecules of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate / Dihydroxyacetone phosphate with the help of ATP.

2. Oxidative phase:
Also known as pay off phase. In this phase the oxidative conversion  of glycerladehyde 3-phosphate into pyruvate coupled with formation of ATP and NADH.
