The Siege of Vicksburg crippled the Confederate’s
capabilities of sustaining the effort and it was held by the Union for the
remainder of the war. During this time
Lee was defeated at Gettysburg as this marked the turning point of the
war. Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas were
separated from the Confederacy with the taking of Vicksburg.
