Dr. Babak is investigating the effect of cocaine on repetitive behavior. Using a
stereotaxic surgery technique, she inserts a cannula into the nucleus accumbens. This
enables her to inject exact amounts of cocaine at specific intervals. To be sure it was
the cocaine and not the surgery that changed behaviors, Dr. Babak also had a
control group that received the surgery but only injected distilled water to
the nucleus accumbens.
