It's Not My Fault

I was mowing the lawn when the sun blinded my eyes. I mowed over mom's flowers, spraying petals across the lawn. "Michael! What happened?"
"Mom, it wasn't my fault. The sun made it hard to see!"
When I was reading my new comic in my room, my dad asked me to feed the cats. But I wanted to finish the last few pages so as not to lose my place. The next day, the bowl was empty and dad wasn't pleased. "Michael! Why didn't you feed the cats?"
"Dad, it wasn't my fault. I was busy reading when you asked!"
My parents took me aside and told me I had to admit when I made a mistake. I wouldn't get in trouble for being truthful. "I'm sorry," I said.

Passage 2

Blown Away

Helen was learning to ride her bike. Grandmother was helping to guide her. The wind began to blow harder, causing Helen to lose control.
Grandmother was trying to steady the bike as Helen lost control. But the wind made it tough. Then Helen's jacket flew into her face. "I can't see!" she cried.
The tires began to wobble. Helen was about to fall when she felt Grandmother's hands catch her. But the bike didn't fall. It kept going as the breeze blew it along the sidewalk. The two chased after the bike. Just when the bike was about to go down the hill, the wind stopped. Helen raced up to the bike and grabbed the handlebars. "Got it!" Grandmother took a deep breath and cheered.
