In this activity, you will examine different types of electromagnetic radiation. Electromagnetic radiation refers to the waves of the electromagnetic spectrum, propagating through space, carrying electromagnetic radiant energy. It includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared, light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays. As you have learned we use a wave model to show the amount of energy in each type. As you answer the following questions, make sure to use complete sentences and proper grammar and punctuation. Refer to the rubric to see how you will be graded. Write your responses in a document and submit to Dropbox. Visible light chart Red 700nm Yellow/green 600nm Blue 500 nm Violet 400nm Wavelength chart longer shown on left and shorter wavelength on right Longest to shortest wavelengths are: radio waves, microwaves, infrared, ultraviolet. Gamma Looking at the above image, which type of wave has more energy? How do you know? Which type has less energy? How do you know? As you look at the electromagnetic spectrum, you can see how every day we are getting exposed to a variety of types of radiation. Think about in your daily life, list three examples of radiation you are exposed to daily. Should we be concerned with this exposure to radiation? Read this short article from The American Cancer Society, then answer the following question. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/radiation-exposure/extremely-low-frequency-radiation.html After reading the article, are you concerned with electromagnetic radiation? Why or why not? Use information from the article or conduct your own internet research to decide. Make sure to use the text to back up your ideas.
