Millipedes are a diverse group of worm-like organisms found in different habitats all over the world. There are around 12,000 species of millipedes, and most prefer to live in moist forest ecosystems. Millipedes are nocturnal, which means they are active at night. During their waking hours, they feed on plant remains and feces of other organisms. To protect themselves from predators, they produce smelly chemicals which cause their predators harm. Their body is made up of hard outer plates which protects them when they curl up to protect themselves in dangerous situations.
