Mr. Ward does not come to the door, but had begun to pace near the car. He let Susan and Mrs. Ward into the car, put his hands on his hips and gave an abrupt nod towards Ivy and Mama while frowning. Mama said, "When someone wears a face like that, it is often hiding a reason we cannot see. We later find out that Mr. Ward would like to buy the Yamamoto property. He thinks they are hiding something in their house that would prove they are spies.If he could prove they were spies, the family would go to prison and the house would belong to the bank. He also believes Kenny is the reason his son is dead.
